What Katie wore: The Highlight of 2013 – Tomboy KC

from: Andrea • Comments: 0 • under: 2013, Tomboy KC

A new year is coming and we’d like to ring that year in with a bit of color. And since beanies have been somewhat of our pièce de résistance, it seems only fitting that said highlight resemble a Hi-Liter of some sort. A little neon goes a long, long way toward brightening things up a bit. Outlook? Tennis ball bright. So, bring it 2014. Our head is in the right place. [...Seguir Leyendo]

What Katie wore: Our kind of vintage – Tomboy KC

from: Andrea • Comments: 0 • under: 2013, Tomboy KC

Sometimes the best finds aren’t on the internet or in a shiny new store. No, sometimes they come from a very smelly store with weird music playing in the background and questionable things going on out front. Sometimes they are buried in the back of said store where someone (with questionable judgment) decided that this particular garment was no longer __________ (insert subjective adjective here). Such was the case with this coat. Yes, this rather amazing coat was not only worn by someone else, but that someone then decided that it was no longer of use to them and tossed it. And their choice of places to toss it? A REALLY smelly store. Did this coat do something terrible to them? It’s ok, we are still confused, too. [...Seguir Leyendo]

What Katie wore: To hell, or not to heel – Tomboy KC

from: Andrea • Comments: 0 • under: 2013, Tomboy KC

Funny thing about this look: We debated for quite some time whether it should involve sneakers or heels. Sneakers or heels. Sneakers or heels. While classic heels seemed like the “appropriate” solution to the footwear problem (who are we kidding, they always look good), something about it just didn’t feel right. We were running around town. Who wears heels to run errands? A glutton for punishment, that’s who. So we dropped the pretense and the stilettos and opted for a more casual and comfortable option, but not before snapping a few shots with the aforementioned Manolos. Although nothing about the look changed except for what Katie had on her feet, the vibe of each ensemble couldn’t have been more different. It just goes to show you, it’s all about the shoes (which, let’s face it, we always knew to be the case). [...Seguir Leyendo]

What Katie wore: Your boyfriend’s jeans – Tomboy KC

from: Andrea • Comments: 0 • under: 2013, Tomboy KC

This season we are all about boyfriend jeans. And when we say boyfriend jeans, we are talking denim pants sized like you actually borrowed them from, you know, your boyfriend. What did you think we were talking about? Think baggy pants circa 1995 cinched a bit at the waist so as not to offend the likes of Cher Horowitz. Don’t worry, we don’t want to look like we just fell out of bed and put on some baggy pants (we got you, Cher), which is why we paired them with some tailored pieces and ladylike accessories. We don’t like to play favorites, but when it comes to looks, this whole “dropped drawers” thing just might be at the top of our “love this” list. [...Seguir Leyendo]

What Katie wore: Without lenses – Tomboy KC

from: Andrea • Comments: 0 • under: 2013, Tomboy KC

Once upon a time there were a pair of neglected sunglasses. Once loved and worn to no end, somewhere along the way a lens had been lost making them seemingly unusable. As once loved items that have lost their luster often do, they found themselves in a pile full of things that should have been thrown away but were too precious for their owner to toss without thought (at least for the moment, anyway). They were unused and without a hope of ever being so again. [...Seguir Leyendo]

What Katie wore: I see right through you – Tomboy KC

from: Andrea • Comments: 0 • under: 2013, Tomboy KC

We live for lace. The problem with it, however, always comes with the whole “see-through” situation. Trying to make a statement without pulling a Janet Jackson is a real challenge when you are dealing with a fabric that is, by it’s very nature, meant to show the world what’s going on underneath (heyo!). Here is the dilemma: Do you say screw it and rock a bra underneath, go the bralette route and sacrifice support or defeat the whole purpose with a lumpy tank over undergarments? Decisions and bad options. Recently, we discovered the Betsy Bra by Cosabella – a long-sleeved push-up which could essentially be a crop top if you wanted it to (let’s talk about our plans to wear it (Han) solo under a pair of overalls come spring). It is what one might call “perfect” for this situation. Wouldn’t you agree? A little skin, a little coverage and a whole lot of look. [...Seguir Leyendo]

What Katie wore: H&M x Isabel Marant – Tomboy KC

from: Andrea • Comments: 0 • under: 2013, Tomboy KC

When the Isabel Marant for H&M collab hit the shelves we knew we were going to have a dilemma. To go or not to go, that was the question. On one hand, queuing at 6:00 a.m. come November 14 was sure to get us everything on our wish list (our pal Amber Venz adopted this strategy and made out with the coveted embroidered jacket – lucky lady). On the other hand, we have a tendency to get a case of the “fashion frenzies” come collab time. For us, lining up early with other fashionable ladies is like getting a first class ticket on the crazy train. We feed off of the nervous energy, black out and then the next thing we know we are unpacking bags filled to the brim with clothing we “had to have” but never knew we needed (mostly because we didn’t).
